How To Create a Photography Website | Education for Photographers

Yay! You're ready to make your very own website or blog! There are many sites you can use to create a beautiful website. I first started with Wordpress and then switched to Wix. I liked how easy it was to use and customize the site myself. I watched a few youtube videos and my site was done in a single day. I'll be teaching how to start a Wix website since that's what I currently use, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with going with Wordpress, Squarespace, or other online web services.

Make a photography website

1. Create a free account with Wix - Easy Peasy

2. Pick a Template-

I went with something clean and simple. The more complicated the template looks - The more you will need to learn how to customize. You can start creating your design here: Free Designs

3. Customize your Site -

Once you've chosen a template, you can begin to customize. Switching out photos for your own. If you are a blogger and don't have professional images, Wix has free images available for use as well as big stock images you can purchase. If you are a photographer you want to use your own work and images in your portfolio to attract your ideal client.

4. Don't Forget SEO -

SEO will be an entire post on it's own, but just to get you started... make sure you are using keywords potential users would search for when looking for your services. Make sure to clearly list what you do, where you are, and how to contact you.

5. Check the Mobile Version-

When people view your site from a device other than a computer, their screens are smaller and that can change the look of your site. Make sure to click the little mobile icon in the upper left hand side of the editor to check the pages and make sure they are mobile friendly. You may need to hide some elements or move some things around for ideal cellular viewing.

6. Connect a Domain -

To set up your website address, click on "Connect your Domain" button on your dashboard. You will then be walked through the process of searching for available domain names for your site and purchasing. It was $25 for two years of owning my domain when I set up my website.

7. Share your new Site!!

Share the link to your new site on your social media platforms, create free memberships to wedding wire, the knot, and other wedding planning sites to get your website listed as many places as possible that potential clients may be looking.

Congratulations! You're all set to go and make a beautiful new site!! Click here to get started!
